Digital File Cleanup

2025-05-24 @ 6:48am

Hi

I'm writing these posts when the site is not even online yet.
It's a calming mood, writing posts offline

Recently my focus has been on digital data cleanup - and I'm not doing a very good job!
I keep spawning new accounts for various places, only to not delete past accounts
so I end up drowning in a mountain of accounts!

not to mention the files - I have 21,000+ files in my screenshots folder now
And to make it worse all my project files are all de-synced across all the backup locations

It does make one want to delete all files and online presence to feel clean and without noise

First time counting my personal files, I apparently have 73k!
These are all files from 2013 onwards - game saves, screenshots, coding project files, drawings, archives of games!

What would we miss the most if we were to lose all the files?
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I think "good memories" screenshots.
I should make a photo album of them soon!

Below are the years with the number of screenshots I took each year:

  • 2025: 827
  • 2024: 6,841
  • 2023: 5,216
  • 2022: 2,922
  • 2021: 2,230
  • 2020: 2,510
  • 2019: 1,731
  • 2018: 572
  • 2017: 268
  • 2016: 426
  • 2015: 285
  • 2014: 412
  • 2013: 152

It's an interesting trend
You can clearly see the point where I started my descent into terminal online-ness, gradually getting worse, and then basically disappearing this year

This year I've stopped taking as many screenshots because

  • I work more hours
  • I have a real life person now that I go outside with 1-2 times a week
  • I've stopped talking to people online. I used to have the blessing of being able to talk to 12 - 17 people every week, for hours. It was really fun. These days it's down to 1 or 2. I don't notice it because
  • My sense of time has greatly changed for unknown reasons. I feel like a tree watching time pass.

A tree! In a good way? I do feel like I've developed fully as a person this year. A complete adult person.
I'm proud of how far I've come and I've accepted all that will happen.

todo!
